"Somalia" by Garry Neill Kennedy, May 2002. This wall painting borrows from the colour stripes used on the ribbons that suspend the Canadian Forces medal for personnel who served in operation DELIVERANCE in Somalia 1992-3. This work is on the west wall of an artist run gallery (Gallery 101) on Nepean street in Ottawa. The grey building barely seen on the left was occupied by some DND offices (no longer). Kennedy is well known for his clever use of painting that is based on references to site, history and politics. Gallery 101 facilitated the creation of this work.
